About the project

Music & Arts School - Sekha, Nepal

In the heart of the Nepalese Himalayas, the Tomorrowland Foundation and CUNINA opened the first Music & Arts School in Sekha, Nepal. Integrated into the existing Cunina Boarding School, the school offers over 300 children the opportunity to explore their creativity through music and dance. With four spacious classrooms and dedicated teachers, students learn to play instruments like guitar, flute, keyboard, and traditional Nepalese instruments such as the Sarangi and Madal. This initiative highlights the belief that education goes beyond reading and writing, creative expression is essential for a brighter future.

Why Nepal?

Witnessing the reality of illiteracy

In Nepal, 30% of the population is illiterate, despite the fact that primary education is free and mandatory for all children between 6 and 11 years old. In reality, only half of all Nepalese children go to school. In the remote mountain areas, this figure is even lower. State schools tend to be of low quality, while private schools are too expensive for most children. This is one of the reasons why children who do try to get an education drop out of school prematurely. On April 25th, 2015 the country was struck by a major earthquake from which it is still recovering, making the situation even worse.

I was instantly enthusiastic about the project. That's why I was very happy that they asked me to travel to Nepal with them to officially open the school on behalf of Tomorrowland and all People of Tomorrow.

A special visit

Lost Frequencies

“My personal story aligns perfectly with this project. At home, I was given every opportunity and that included time and space for creativity. I chose to express this in making music and learning to play instruments. Without those opportunities, I would never have become a musician/dj. That's why I think it's fantastic that the children here in Sekha can now have that opportunity as well!
